What are attributes in Scanlily?

Attributes are fields that describe items in your inventory, such as Quantity, Model Number, Brand, or Location. Scanlily provides over 80 standard attributes and allows paying subscribers to create unlimited custom attributes.

How do item types relate to attributes?

Each item type determines which attributes are displayed. When you select a different item type like "Photography" or "Electronics," the system automatically shows the relevant attributes configured for that type.

What is the difference between attributes and attachments?

Attributes store a single updatable value for each field, while attachments can store multiple timestamped entries. For example, Description is an attribute with one value, but you can add many Note attachments that are each timestamped and show who added them.

Can I create my own custom attributes?

Yes, Pro and Business subscribers can create unlimited custom attributes. You define the name, choose the data type (text, currency, dropdown, etc.), and specify any options. Custom attributes work just like standard attributes throughout the system.

How does the Quantity attribute work?

The Quantity attribute lets one item page represent multiple physical units. You can adjust quantity with +/- buttons on the item page or containers page. Setting quantity below zero means you are not currently tracking quantity for that item.

What is the Flag attribute used for?

The Flag attribute marks item status with values like "Broken," "Need to Service," "Need to Recharge," or "Lost." Pro and Business subscribers can customize these flag values to match their workflow needs.

How does the UPC attribute help with inventory?

When you scan a UPC barcode, Scanlily searches a database of over half a billion products and can automatically populate item details including images, saving significant data entry time.

Can I reorder how attributes appear?

Yes, you can drag attributes to change their display order. Click the pencil icon next to an item type, then drag attributes up or down to reorder them. Be sure to save your changes.

What is the Assigned To attribute?

The Assigned To field lets Business subscribers designate which user or team is responsible for an item, useful for tracking who has company laptops or other equipment for long-term use.

How do I add or remove attributes from an item type?

Click the dropdown arrow next to the item type, then click the pencil icon. You will see checkboxes next to each attribute. Check the attributes you want to display and uncheck those you want to hide, then save your changes.
